Tsubaki Power-Lock®
Power-Lock is a friction locking device also known as keyless shaft bushing or keyless locking device by other manufacturers.

Let's look at how Power-Lock performs better compared to keyed joints!
The concept of how it works is linked with the name of the device. It uses friction to transmit torque between the shaft and bore surfaces.
Above Fig.2 shows the concept of Tsubaki Power-Lock
Looking at Fig,2 it shows the pressure exerted onto both surfaces labeled P' and P. Note that P' refers to the force acting on the outer ring and P refers to the force acting on the inner ring in Fig.1. When the both outer and inner rings extends and the locking bolts torqued to the required torque, it forms a secure connection between the hub and the shaft with the force spread evenly around unlike the traditional keyway where most of the force transmitted is only through the small surface area of the key.

Now lets get to the advantages and disadvantages of using Power-Lock!
Advantages includes:
- No keys required
- Provides simple and highly secure connections without backlash
- Wide range of models for different applications
- High transmissible torque ratings
- Self-Centering
- Easy installation and removal
- Durable & Reusable
Disadvantages:
- Higher initial cost
- Conversion from keyed joints can be difficult
To sum it up, the advantages that a Power-Lock has almost definitely out-weighted the disadvantage of using one, so there's no reason to go back to using traditional keyed joints! Should you have any questions about our Power-Lock®, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to assist you!
